Three cheers to the U.S. Virgin Islands, where a strong smokefree law took effect earlier this month. The law covers not only bars and restaurants but areas within 20 feet of all outdoor public transportation stations and platform shelters. Hear that, Metro? It can be done. The law also covers laundromats, schools, hotels, casinos, shopping centers and [...] The Virgin Islands is going smokefree. Gov. John deJohng Jr. has signed a bill that makes all public indoor spaces and workplaces smokefree, including bars and restaurants. The only problem: According to the Virgin Islands Daily News, deJohng wants to tinker with the definition of “enclosed area.” Let’s hope he doesn’t water down the law. |
