Bob, that would be great if that really happened. In reality, though, cigarette smoke does circulate through ventilation systems, cracks in walls, etc.

Firewalls should be intact and ventilation systems cannot share recirculated air in residential buildings, only in commecial buildings with exhaust fans for washrooms, kitchens, and shop areas. If building inspectors find the building to meet building codes, a ban is not needed.

It is hard to Stop Smoking at all but i tried so hard to quit smoking because of the fear of lung cancer ~

I had a similar problem when I lived in the Promenade Apartments (DC at Kalorama Triangle) nearly 10 years ago. Cigar smoke from a neighbor was coming through an adjoining wall (my closet) and sometimes in the main door as well. I complained to the property manager and was told there was nothing to be done – that others had a right to smoke in their units and the fact that it was drifting into mine was not their problem. I did not stay in that building long, but I hope they have become more enlightened through the years. Renter beware!
