Honduras goes smokefree

No Smoking SignHonduras went smokefree today, and the law is more comprehensive than most laws in U.S. cities and states.

Not only does it require all indoor spaces to be smokefree, but it says that people shouldn’t smoke outside if they are within two meters of another person. Wish we had that here — bus stops would be a whole lot more pleasant.

According to an e-mail from Americans for Nonsmokers’ Rights,

Honduras joins an impressive smokefree trend: Peru, Colombia, Uruguay, Panama, Guatemala, Mexico, Mexico City, nine Argentinean provinces, and seven Brazilian states now have strong smoke-free laws and policies in effect.  Buenos Aires City also recently enacted a strong smokefree law and is planning for implementation.
